Kudos and Success Stories

I have spent a lot of time with you since finding Yoga for the Young at Heart in TN last summer. This is my fourth tape ordered. After doing both tapes, YYH and now mostly Embracing Menopause for five months, my doctor says I am better than she has ever seen me!

I could go on and on but thank you for giving me the gift of yoga. I look forward to the new tape--you are my only teacher. I don't feel ready to show myself in a class yet. I have given Embracing Menopause as gifts to two friends who have asked me why I look so great! Thank you again, as you have probably saved my life in so many ways. —
Lauren in TN

I am 45 and in menopause. My body had changed dramatically in the last 6 months. As a result I felt stressed and anxious all the time, since I wanted my body to be thin like it always was. Everything is now going to be stomach and waist area.

As a last resort, I ordered "Embracing Menopause" and I love it!!! It really helps to settle me down. Thank you so much for helping me. I will give you another update on my "physical" state soon! — Patricia in Arabi, LA

###

You have written a sensible book on yoga for the beginner and yoga for older people. I found it refreshing after the volumes of books on power yoga. — Yvonne in Surrey, UK

###

I absolutely LOVE my "Sitting Fit Anytime" CD-Rom!!! I use it ALL the time. My sitting-at-the-computer-all-day neck aches have improved/disappeared! And I love the screensaver option! — Diane Close in MN

###

Your Sitting Fit CD is a great idea, and you did a fantastic and artistic job in producing such a useful tool for folks with busy lives. The stretches which can be done at work or at home from chairs really brings yoga to the average person, I applaud your efforts! The seamless and high quality video/audio was the best I have seen. — David Vaughn in Denver, CO

###

Finally got time to check your CD out and it is fantastic!!! I am so proud of you. I have seen other computer yoga CDs and yours is by far the very best. The images are great, the sound is clear and the yoga is wonderful. — Julie Lusk, Director, Mercy Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH

I thoroughly enjoyed your Embracing Menopause video. It is a visual delight --you look serene and beautiful! I especially appreciated your opening and closing comments. After watching numerous videos over the years, I've decided that no video is perfect -- each serves a limited purpose. I see videos more as tools to use to motivate students to practice at home or perhaps inspire them to go to class rather than actually teaching how to practice the poses! You do an excellent job teaching by example and your video is a real treat to practice with for a menopausal woman like myself.— Suza Francina, author of "The New Yoga for People Over 50"

I recently received your tape "Sitting Fit Anytime" and am really enjoying it. I have Multiple Sclerosis, asthma, and am a senior citizen. (Nobody ever promised me a rose garden). I was turned on to yoga by a group run by the New York Multiple Sclerosis Society for its members and it features seated yoga. I found I was feeling stronger after these sessions, although some in the group needed a little recovery time. When some of the exercises are too difficult for me I do whatever I can and I find that I am improving slowly. When one has physical limitations you do as much as you can and you still get some benefits. ....I spoke to the head nurse at the MS Center where I am treated and she thinks that some of the patients may profit from your program and I will pass it on. — Marylin Bennett

I decided to try Yoga as part of my daily exercise program about 2 years ago at the retirement community where Susan was teaching classes. I've kept it up ever since. I recently had surgery so I'm not practicing right now but I'm going to get back to it as soon as I can. I have recommended Yoga for the Young at Heart to my family and friends. I find it easy to include it in my daily life. I practice it 2 times a week faithfully. I think it's good for you. More relaxing exercise is wonderful and generally makes you feel more peaceful. — Evelyn Malcolm in Santa Barbara, CA; age 89

###

Yoga kept me from getting lethargic, toned up my muscles. I find 8:00 am is the best time to practice yoga, and I do it twice a week. I have recommended Yoga for the Young at Heart to my sister who is in her 70's. — R. A. in Santa Barbara, CA; age 84

I have disabilities related to Fibro Myalgia. I took an introductory class but found it too strenuous. I took an additional class but the instructor was not in touch with beginners or those with difficulties. I was told that exercise would be therapeutic but I found that it increased the pain. I began renting yoga videos. I probably tried 10-12 videos and found only 2 that were suitable for me. One was Yoga for the Young at Heart. I prefer Susan's video. I do it several times each week. It gives me more flexibility and an increased sense of well-being. I recommended it to others in the last yoga class I was having difficulty in. I love the tape! — Jill Breedon in Santa Barbara, CA; age 48

P.S. I think yoga is therapeutic for everyone if you can find and instructor who meets your particular needs. I think yoga is particularly therapeutic for older people and Susan's video is uniquely appropriate for older people or those with physical limitations. I have tried numerous other yoga classes and videos. Susan's stands out from all the others. It's by far the best. Susan's tape is a God-send!

Yoga helps me get in touch with my own body to keep myself healthier. I have recommended Yoga for the Young at Heart to a lot of people. One friend who has Fibro Myalgia which causes a lot of pain and she has difficulty doing physical things in general because of the pain, Yoga for the Young at Heart is her favorite video. — John Rothgeb in Independence, CA; age 51

I now practice 3 times a week using Susan's video. Yoga has meant so much to me. Every morning before getting out of bed I do 6-7 yoga positions. It's become a ritual. My body asks for it. It's like brushing my teeth. It's what my body wants. It has a lot to do with being in balance. I feel more oneness with the environment, with my surroundings. My whole outlook on life has improved. I thank Susan so much for what she's done for me in the time I have known her. — Otto Mortensen in Santa Barbara, CA; age 79

Thank you. I received my original program Yoga for the Young at Heart, have done it & I feel good already, this is excellent for me being a Senior. I will treasure this & not leave it out of my sight. I especially thank Susan Winter Ward...

I was amazed when I turned my VCR on, I knew all the yoga exercises, 50 minutes long -- did I ever enjoy that 50 minutes. I laughed when I told my family, the soup can boil over, hold lunch I am busy, don't call me, I will call you.

You will be hearing from me when I order my next videos. I believe in keeping up with the times. Sincere Thanks to you all, especially Susan Winter Ward. — Edna M. Wilson

I have never "experienced" yoga before and I am 49 years young. It has only been in the last year that I have focused on my physical and spiritual sides together. I visited a local public library, found your video, tried it and love it! I have never had breathing and stretching and relaxing feel so good! I have ordered your catalog so that I can purchase a tape for myself. Thanks for the introduction! — Sally Baker in Dover, FL

I am so impressed with your materials. Yesterday Scott and I watched and participated in your Yoga for the Young at Heart video. WE LOVED IT! Scott is someone who has been doing yoga for over 6 years, 2 hours a day, and he really enjoyed your video and thinks you are a great teacher. I have given up on yoga 3 or 4 times because I always felt intimidated. I loved the way you gently walk us through reminding us to breathe again and again. I'M HOOKED! — Jill V. Mangino, President, Circle 3 Communications

About 4 years ago, a chiropractor I was going to recommended yoga, and he recommended Susan. I went to her class and I loved it. It became an important part of my life. It put me in touch with my body again. It reaffirmed that connection with my body...to be in touch with body and spirit. I zeroed in on the parts of my body that needs my awareness. I gave the Yoga for the Young at Heart video to my 82-year old stepmother. I asked if she watched it, she said what do you mean watch it...I did it! — Kitty Wheaton in Santa Barbara, CA; age 66

Excellent program especially for those starting or for the young at heart. — Manaz and Mohd in Vancouver, B.C. Canada

Kaye, my daughter in law in Idaho, sent me your video tape called "Yoga for the Young at Heart." When I first got it a few weeks ago, I thought I would never be able to do anything on that tape. Now, I have done so much improving, I think I can modify or adapt several of those stretches to my bed and to my couch. Now I am looking for another ratchet up! — Wrena Black in Cedar City, Utah

I met you several years ago at NICABAM conference in Hilton Head where you did a morning yoga workout before conference. My first taste of yoga. Have been doing your "Yoga for the Young at Heart" video and cannot thank you enough. Feel great and getting younger all the time. Spend the 1st hour of the day in meditation and prayer and prayanayama folllowed by your video work out... some days I go to the gym. So important to practice what you preach (I am a radiation oncologist and keep encouraging people to change their lives and thoughts to take control again). Thanks again. Hope to see you again sometime. — Jim Tegeler, MD, Radiation Oncology

7-8 years ago I went to a recreation-sponsored yoga teacher. She expected too much, it was too strenuous. I was really happy to learn from Susan. She told me to do what I could handle, always told me not to do more than I could handle. As I became more flexible, I was able to do more. More flexibility has been the most important result for me and I feel better, of course. Yoga makes me feel more peaceful. We enjoy Susan’s book and video. — Suzy in Santa Barbara, CA, age 76

I became interested in yoga 8-9 years ago. I also teach Tai Chi Chuan. They go together beautifully, both meditative and provide inner strength. It definitely gives me more energy. I recommend Yoga for the Young at Heart to everyone. P.S. We miss Susan 150%! — Babs Raymond, Santa Barbara, CA; age 80

... I just love doing your yoga lesson, within a few days of practice I noticed that my face is more relaxed, I have less wrinkles and a fresher look - besides I use to clench my jaw but I am starting to relax and do better. Thank you for your great work. — With all my love, Mary Jane in Weston, FL
