YogaHeart Shines its Spotlight on...

Babs Raymond
Sightless, but you would
never know.

--- 80 years young

One of my very first students, Babs Raymond, was also one of my finest teachers. You can see her beautiful yoga poses in my book, Yoga for the Young at Heart. I was teaching a class in which I was demonstrating a pose and Babs just didn’t seem to be able to do the pose based on my verbal direction or on my demo.

Finally, I said, “Babs, look, see if you can do this.”

Babs responded in a very matter-of-fact tone, “Honey, I can’t see you.
I’m blind.”

I had no idea! Her beautiful, smiling blue eyes gave me no indication of her blindness.

Teaching Babs taught me, not only to be very descriptive and specific in my instruction, but also to never take a student’s ability for granted.

What a blessing!
